There is a shortage of dental treatment throughout the country in the UK

In addition to the restrictions imposed by the new type of Corona virus (Covid-19) epidemic in the UK, dental treatment has reached dangerous levels with the departure of European Union citizen dentists day by day due to Brexit.

In the statement made by the Independent Patient Observers (Healthwatch), it was stated that people all over the UK applied to the National Health Service (NHS) for dental treatment, but did not receive a response.

452 PERCENT INCREASE IN DENTAL TREATMENT CALLS AND COMPLAINTS IN 2020

The statement pointed out that the inability of patients to receive dental treatment may lead to an increase in oral cancer and this increases the risk of the country facing a secret national dentistry crisis in the near future, and it was reminded that the number of calls and complaints related to dental treatment increased by 452 percent in 2020.

“We have been hearing about people from all over the country having access to dental treatment since the pandemic,” said Imelda Redmond, National Director of Healthwatch, whose views were quoted in the statement. used the expression.

Redmond stated that emergency dental care centers were established throughout the country until April 2021, but treatments were limited and tooth extraction was recommended instead of treatments that would save patients’ teeth. Imelda Redmond, on the other hand, reported that the majority of the society experienced difficulties in getting dental treatment because private practices are too expensive.

Neil Carmichael, President of the Dentists Association, stated that the employment crisis has further increased the problem of access to treatment.

Carmichael spoke as follows:

“We have a huge recruitment problem, and it will get bigger thanks to Covid-19. The number of dental schools needs to double. And the consequences of Brexit are also coming to light, because so many dentists are coming from the EU. Some are going back and “many of them are not coming here anymore. We need to expand mutual recognition so that the free movement of dentists and work permit problems are lifted.”
In the country, dental practices were closed until June 8, 2021, after the quarantine began in March 2020.
